Córdoba relives the promotion in Huesca during LaLiga's Retro Matchday.

The Córdoba Club de Fútbol will relive the promotion in Huesca during the Retro Matchday which will take place on matchday 35 of LaLiga Hypermotion and will see us face Real Zaragoza at the Bahrain Victorious Nuevo Arcángel. For the occasion, the cordobesista team will wear a jersey inspired by the 2007 promotion to the Second Division. A jersey that, without a doubt, brings back good memories for the green-and-white fans and evokes one of the most important moments in our recent history.

This nostalgic jersey will be available for purchase at the club's official store on Cruz Conde Street and in the online store starting tomorrow, Friday. Additionally, season ticket holders will enjoy, on Friday and Saturday, and exclusively at the physical store on Cruz Conde Street, a priority sale of a limited edition presented in a commemorative promotion box. This includes the promotion scarf with the names of its protagonists, socks inspired by the goal celebration in Huesca, an explanatory leaflet, and the jersey itself.

STORYTELLING

There are jerseys that leave a mark in the memory of Córdoba fans.

This one became eternal on June 24, 2007, although it began to take shape in the summer of 2006. Or perhaps much earlier. After almost twenty years of exile, wandering through muddy fields and even falling to the Third Division, Córdoba Club de Fútbol returned to the Second Division in 1999. Unlike the bitterness suffered in the 80s and 90s, by 2007 there was already a generation of young green-and-white fans who had experienced a promotion, who had touched the sky in Las Tendillas.

But they also learned to live with pain. In 2005, during the 50th anniversary season and the anthem that still gives goosebumps at El Arcángel, Córdoba fell back to Segunda B. They did so with the dignity of those who fail while trying, with an exciting second half of the season, though it was not enough.

They had to wait until the 2006/07 season to see Javi Moreno score 24 goals, a very young Javi Flores establish himself, or the Italian Alessandro Pierini become the ‘kaiser’ of the defense. We finished fourth in the promotion playoffs after leading the second half of the season. Pepe Escalante, the coach of the 1999 promotion, was once again at the helm.

Córdoba only won one of the four matches they played to secure promotion. After defeating Pontevedra when away goals counted double in the event of a tie, they faced SD Huesca in the final. And that was a different story. Pierini put the green-and-whites ahead in the second minute of the first leg, which ended with an exciting 2-0.

The green-and-white fans mobilized to storm El Alcoraz, even though it was by no means an easy task. It was then that heroic feats that would be etched in the history of Córdoba CF emerged, such as the 175 fans who, multiplied by faith and sentiment, ended up completely filling the stands of Huesca's stadium.

It was June 24, 2007. The fans who traveled to El Alcoraz were rubbing their hands together when Dani took the ball and carefully placed it on the penalty spot. Hundreds of kilometers away, in Vista Alegre, the air grew tense: sweat and nerves on edge. Scarves clenched between teeth, hearts in throats, holding their breath, while thousands of Córdoba fans raised their eyes to the giant screens, not daring to blink, praying that, for once, luck would be on Córdoba's side. Then the fountain in Las Tendillas was cordoned off to prevent an “i-i-invasion.”

Dani celebrated with his arms raised, unleashing madness in the makeshift Arcángel of that stand in El Alcoraz. The draw was enough. There was no suffering.

Córdoba rose again.

Córdoba Club de Fútbol returned to the Second Division.

This is not just a jersey.
It is the memory of a Córdoba CF that never gave up.

GROUND-BREAKING JERSEY T.2006/2007

Córdoba CF achieved that feat with a groundbreaking, innovative jersey that deviated from the classic 6 white and 5 green vertical stripes of the crest. A true statement of intent.

Two-tone jersey split vertically into two halves: green on one side and white on the other. V-neck collar in green with white trim. Reversed sleeves: one green with a white panel on the upper part and the other, white with the green panel. Club crest on the left chest and sponsor on the right. Classic cut and finished with green trims at the bottom. Loose-fitting jersey, not tight, as was customary at the beginning of the millennium.

After 18 years, we bring back this jersey and this moment because they evoke a feat of the club in which the entire city of Córdoba was involved, a city that, after years of disaffection, unrest, and indifference, finally saw itself reflected in the green and white colors.

And the hope back then that the best was yet to come. Exactly the same as it is today.
