Winter market balance: maximum excitement to face the decisive stretch

Antonio Fernández Monterrubio, CEO of Córdoba CF, responded emphatically to the question of whether the club feels “vertigo” at being close to the fight for the promotion play-offs after such an accelerated evolution in just two seasons. He referred to a “maximum enthusiasm” accompanied by great responsibility, recalling that just over two years ago the entity was outside professional football, with annual losses close to five million euros and a critical sporting situation.

In this regard, Monterrubio emphasized the importance of contextualizing the current growth of the club, framed within a roadmap based on sustainability and economic rigor. A growth that is already reflected in concrete figures, such as the 33% increase in the sports squad cost limit.

Within this line of strategic stability, the CEO highlighted the renewal of coach Iván Ania as a key decision for the continuity of the project initiated in 2023. 

Regarding the balance of the winter market, both Monterrubio and the sporting director, Juan Gutiérrez ‘Juanito’, evaluated the window very positively, emphasizing that the sporting aspect was prioritized over the economic one. The objective was to “close ranks” and maintain the competitive core, something that was achieved (the departure of Carlos Isaac after the payment of his release clause). To strengthen the team without compromising the viability of the project, young players with potential such as Percan, Trilli, and Goti joined, in addition to the return of Adilson, considered a key piece in the team’s performance.

They also highlighted the revaluation of the club’s assets. The interest shown by other teams in several players of the squad is an unequivocal sign that the project is moving in the right direction. 

Looking ahead to the final stretch of the season, the message is clear: ambition with feet on the ground. The primary goal is to reach the 50-point mark as soon as possible and, from there, aim for new challenges. All of this is part of a process of sustained growth, supported by the backing of a fan base that has regained its enthusiasm for the team.
